As the semester inches towards second semester finals, seniors are left speculating about the requirements for SPURS and whether or not they’re eligible. SPURS (Student Pride Rewards and Unites Seniors) is a program that allows seniors to be excused from their second-semester final exams and capstone days if they meet certain requirements. However, some dual credit courses may require an exam regardless of eligibility. Current seniors are eligible for SPURS if they’ve met specific criteria throughout the year that show their commitment to academics and their education.

To be eligible, students have to be on time to class more than 90% during their senior year. That means no more than 17 tardies for a whole-year class, and no more than eight tardies for a whole-semester class.

As for attendance, students can’t be designated as chronically absent, which means missing no more than 16 days (both semesters combined). Additionally, during the second semester, seniors have to have five or fewer absences in a certain class to get SPURS just for that class. But school-excused field trips and college visits don’t count towards those, as long as they are approved here. Seniors get five excused college visit days.

There are also academic expectations seniors have to uphold to get SPURS, where students have to maintain an A or B average second semester. However, teachers can waive this on a case-by-case basis for a C average if best seen fit.

During the entirety of senior year, students must not have any incidents that result in an in-school and/or out-of-school suspension. If any students are involved in planning a senior prank, it can result in no seniors getting SPURS at all.
