Committee Day Elections

Civics and AP Government classes hosted their bi-annual Committee Day, a mock United States House of Representatives session where student groups proposed legislation for committee approval. Voting also took place to determine the winners of the presidency and Speaker of the House elections. Read below to understand each candidate’s campaigns and to find out the results of the elections.

 
 

Presidential Candidates

Junior Lucy Bach is running as a Republican Presidential candidate. During Bach’s campaign, she promised to lower taxes to improve the economy, strengthen national security and defend the constitution through accountability and oversight 

Junior Gibson Gregorio is running as a Republican Presidential candidate. During Gregorio’s campaign, he promised to take no extremes but to focus on protecting the Second Amendment, securing the borders and ensuring bipartisan term limits.

Senior Milan Patel is running as a Republican Presidential candidate. During Patel’s campaign, he promised not to increase taxes, create incentives to improve the economy, restrict immigration and protect the Second Amendment. 

Junior Caley Skidmore is running as a Moderate Presidential candidate. During Skidmore’s campaign, she promised to create more opportunities,  lower taxes for all socioeconomic backgrounds and reduce gun violence.

Senior Shayna Youkhana is running as an Independent Presidential candidate. During Youkhana’s campaign, she promised to reduce the costs of healthcare, focus on criminal deportations and restructuring of ICE as a bureaucracy. 

Candidates for Speaker of the House

Junior Daniel Blanke is running as a Republican candidate for Speaker of the House. During Blanke’s campaign, he promised to create more free enterprise, incorporate a flat tax and strengthen our military through the budget.

Junior Giancarlo Lopez is running as a Republican candidate for Speaker of the House. During Lopez’s campaign, he promised to support small businesses, create a strong military through alliances and ensure the American educational system is held up to a high standard.

Senior Ellison Matta is running as a Moderate candidate for Speaker of the House. During Matta’s campaign, she promised to protect individuals’ civil rights and liberties, limit tariffs and reduce gun violence

Your Presidential and House Speaker Winners

Winner by popular vote for presidency was Gregorio and the winner for Speaker of the House was Lopez. They both will have vital roles in the stimulate full session day in which committee passes bills will either pass into law, vetoed or rejected.
