Super Bowl 2k19 disapproval
This year’s Super Bowl was a major disappointment. The Patriots and the Rams were supposed to be two of the best offensive powerhouses in the NFL. However, the game ended up very low scoring and slow paced. The final score was only 13-3. First of all, on the Rams’ side, Jared Goff got completely shut down and the MVP candidate running back, Todd Gurley, got the ball less than 5 times.
On the Patriots’ side, they played their same extremely boring offensive game, which is led by Tom Brady throwing short five-yard throws one after the other. They did the same plays to Julian Edelman over and over again and it got so boring. If Edelman wasn’t open, Tom Brady would just dump it to Gronk or the running back on a short route. But, in the end, this didn’t actually lead to many scores. They only scored one touchdown and that was a running play. The rest of their thirteen points came off of Field Goals.
Even though the game was extremely boring, I stayed to watch the entire game, thinking that something exciting might happen, but my hopes were crushed. In the fourth quarter, something somewhat exciting finally happened with Jared Goff’s deep throw to Brandin Cooks. He tried to do it again, but Brandin Cooks dropped it in the endzone. Stupidly, Goff tried it another time and threw a high lob. It felt like it was in slow motion. I watched as the ball dropped right into the New England defender, Stephon Gilmore’s hands and headed back the other way in the same boring fashion. The one exciting drive of the whole game was ruined by a stupid decision of the Rams quarterback.
Ok, I sped forward a little. Let’s talk about the terrible halftime show. For starters, Adam Levine, in my opinion, is not that high quality of a singer. All of his songs use a lot of auto-tune. Also, they completely teased us with that Spongebob Sweet Victory Intro, that led to Sicko Mode by Travis Scott. We were all expecting the greatest halftime performance of all time with Spongebob at the lead but it was cut short by Travis Scott. And, just like Adam Levine, Travis Scott uses so much autotune that it was almost unbearable to listen to his real voice. But above all of this, who is Big Boi? Has anyone actually heard of him? Even though I didn’t know him, I still think he had a better performance than the other two, just because he doesn’t rely on auto-tune as much.
One more thing that was subpar about the game was the commercials. You should always expect funny commercials during the Superbowl but these ones weren’t that great. We all heard great things about the Steve Carell and Cardi B Pepsi Commercial leading up to it, but it was pretty bland and not that great. I can’t even remember any of the other commercials, they were so bad.
Overall, the Super Bowl is such a large scale event that has a lot of work put into it, but this year I think they could’ve done a better job.
