A letter from Tiegan: STAY HOME

Dear citizens of the world,

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the collective consequences of the actions we take at the moment are even more momentous. Anyone of us could be carrying the coronavirus.

The advance of COVID-19 has triggered a broad-scale mission of “responsibilization.” This means that political leaders, health experts, and even celebrities, neighbors and loved ones have called upon us all to act responsibly in order to slow the spread of the virus and to minimize the damaging effects of the pandemic.

By going out for coffee or meeting up with friends, we might unwittingly be infecting people who, a few short weeks from now, will find themselves in a hospital bed, gasping for air. And yet, a lot of people around the world are simply refusing to change their behavior.

I’m shocked and utterly disgusted at some people’s unwillingness to do what they’re supposed to and stay inside. When people continue to come in contact with strangers for things that are non-essential it’s putting not only their lives at risk but all their loved ones at home as well.

I’m sure this isn’t the first time you’ve read something like this. That’s why it’s so dumbfounding to me to see continuous Snapchat stories of people with tons of their friends.

Everyone is well aware of the consequences by now and yet, people still continue to selfishly go out. If you don’t already know somebody that’s sick it’s a matter of when not if they get it.

For the people that continue to go out, I say this: how will you sleep at night when this is done knowing you have blood on your hands? How will you sleep at all knowing that you even could have prevented it?

Love,

Tiegs
