This year’s Homecoming dance is on Sept. 28. This year’s Homecoming dance will have many new changes and will be presented by the Student Council Homecoming Committee. Seniors Oliviya Kravchuk, Benice Udeogu and Anika Wadhwa are Homecoming committee heads currently planning the dance.
“We’re not going to have a catwalk like last year. We’re also using a different DJ company, so it’s a little bit cheaper, so we can incorporate changes like concessions,” Kravchuk said when asked about changes to this year’s dance.
The planning of the dance has been underway for nearly a year and the process is almost complete. All that’s left is the finishing touches with administration and decorations provided by the DJ on the event day.
“We have a DJ locked in and secured. Concessions will be coming in, and we’ll have professional decorations. We’re gonna have two 360-degree video camera machines. [We also have] the homecoming playlist set. We have all the posters ready,” Kravchuk said.
For the first time, the decorations will be apparent and adhere to the theme: under the stars. To boost student engagement and homecoming hype, there will be Kahoot games throughout all lunch periods on Monday where students can play to win prizes like free homecoming tickets (worth $30) and Barrington merch.
“All the questions are gonna be about either the Under-the-Stars theme or about Barrington in general. So study up,” Kravchuk said.
The Filly Football/Homecoming week theme days, and the football games themselves (the Filly Football game is Friday, Sept. 27, and the Homecoming game is Saturday, Sept. 28) get the school into school spirit.
The $30 reflected in the ticket price will include a water bottle and popcorn this year- free of charge. The dance playlist isn’t up to the DJ’s discretion this year but was instead decided by the student council.
Students have not gotten a chance to react to the changes to the dance yet. Music and decorations are an integral part of the dance so it’s unclear as of now how these changes will impact the response to the dance.
“I’m feeling really excited because I love music. I think a new DJ will really bring life to the event and get people dancing. I feel like they could’ve used a little improvement last year [with the music],” Senior Avery Hanson said.
Look out for new changes this year!
