October is an exciting and busy month for Orchesis dancers as they prepare for their upcoming fall concert: “ELEVATE.”
The concert kicks off on October 12 at 7 PM, followed by two performances on the 13th at 1 PM and 5 PM. Directed by dance teacher Katelyn Reyes, this event showcases the dancers’ hard work and growth throughout the season. Practices for this show began in August, taking place every Monday and Wednesday for two hours after school. The anticipation is remarkable as students dedicate countless hours to perfecting their routines, driven by a passion for dance and a desire to impress the audience.
“I want the audience to see how dance can push boundaries, allowing students to elevate not only their technical skills but also their creativity and confidence,” Reyes said.
The Orchesis dancers choose the theme for the concert. This year, they settled on “ELEVATE.”
“We start with a brainstorming session to create a list of words that represent our group or serve as motivational words for the year. Stephanie Naumowicz, health teacher and assistant director, and I then narrowed the dancers’ suggestions to our favorite 3-5 words, and the dancers voted on their top choices,” Reyes said.
Choosing the student choreography is a more extensive process. The faculty carefully reviews each submission, focusing on the strength and quality of the choreography, as well as the concepts and narratives behind each piece. This thorough evaluation ensures a diverse range of styles and themes, highlighting the unique talents of the dancers.
“Our focus is on dances that push creative boundaries, tell a story, and showcase the diverse skills within Orchesis,” Reyes noted.
Make sure to come out and support our dancers to see this theme displayed in action. Tickets can be purchased online for you and your friends, so don’t miss this chance to experience a night of inspiring performances!
