Football fans often look to Super Bowl Sunday as a national holiday, and they are pretty much right. Millions of Americans, (and even non-Americans), celebrate the spectacular event that is the Super Bowl. Many people are attracted for several reasons, this can be the game itself, the halftime show, celebrity appearances, etc. Then the next day, people will talk and complain about the game right afterward, the brilliance that is the Super Bowl exceeds all expectations.
Fans often will hold special traditions or events on Super Bowl Sunday, this can range from mild get-togethers and hangouts to unusual superstitions and odd habits.
For Senior Faiz Ali, Super Bowl Sunday is a rather relaxed day to hang out with friends and stay over for the night, enjoying the game and having a great time with friends while watching it.
“I usually hang out with my friends and stay over for the night,” Ali said. “I enjoy being able to experience the huge event that is the Super Bowl, but it’s a lot better when you’re sharing that experience with your friends.”
Many people like Ali use the event that is the Super Bowl as a way to connect with people and share the experience of the game that is essential to American culture and even enjoyable in other cultures around the world.
For Sophomore Sam Barnette, the Super Bowl can be seen as an event to start doing odd things, but they’re still fun.
“When I’m with my friends we like to mix certain drinks and see who can make the most nasty and gross one,” Barnette says. “It’s a fun little competition thing that we do and we like to have fun with it, it’s only on the night of the Super Bowl that we can do dumb fun stuff like that.”
For Junior Khsuro Khan, The Super Bowl is a time to get a bite and treat himself and his family to good food.
“Before the game, we like to get a bite from a restaurant in Lombard called Mr. Broast, like the piece of chicken,” Khan said. It’s always nice to get a good meal before we eventually start losing it during the actual game.”
For many Americans, The Super Bowl is essentially an American Holiday and celebration but is even celebrated in other countries and parts of the world as well. How do you celebrate and experience Super Bowl Sunday?
