New clubs have been sweeping the school, ensuring each student has a positive experience while exploring their hobbies and interests. Cards for Comfort is a club where students can explore their artistic talents by making get-well cards for the sick in hospitals. By promoting positivity, they can greatly improve patients’ days.
Sophomores Yunus Kazim and Khushi Thakkar as well as Junior Hamsa Tiparaju founded the club and are currently running it while it is in its infant stages. Kazim discusses how the club was established, what went into it and his plans for the future.
“I saw a group of people make positive notes and cards just for hospital patients and nursing homes on social media and thought it would be a great idea to do something similar here at BHS. Khushi Thakkar and Hamsa Tiparaju were also considering making a similar club, so we decided to get the club application and approval and made Cards for Comfort,” Kazim said.
Regarding the initial plan, the organizers behind Cards for Comfort include how they are going to distribute these cards to the patients and their process for doing so.
“The initial plan when founding CFC was to spread positivity to local places where some may be needed. Currently, we have partnered with local hospitals and nursing homes but hope to spread our impact more,” Kazim said.
Kazim also speaks about what he and the other leaders of the club plan to do with the bright future that Cards for Comfort holds.
“In the future, we hope to become a 501c3 organization, meaning an organization able to take funds and donations to become a charity. We also hope to get this idea outside of BHS, where [anyone], no matter school or age, can make handmade cards that can be delivered to any healthcare facility,” Kazim said.
Also, Kazim and the other organizers plan to expand Cards for Comfort’s scope and goals, employing a manager to help reach out to new healthcare facilities and hospitals.
“We currently have some amazing leaders in the “Outreach Manager” position of our club. Their job is to spread the word of Cards for Comfort so other healthcare facilities or organizations can hopefully accept these cards to be distributed to their patients,” Kazim said.
