Little Women:
This is one of my all-time favorite movies, so it’s always a recommendation from me. Although Little Women really fits into fall. The movie is filled with warm colors, holidays, there is always a fire in the hearth of living rooms, people dance and laugh, and family and friends are always around. There is an air of comfort and coziness in this movie. On top of this, it has a great story that takes you through many ups and downs and lessons. It will make you laugh and cry, but it is a perfect comforting watch for fall.
Dead Poets Society:
The movie opens during fall, students going back to school, leaves falling and crisper air. It heavily reflects the weather and season that is quickly approaching. The movie inserts you into Welton Academy, a serious and fancy prep school. It’s an idyllic fall, back-to-school scene. There may be heavy themes and unfortunate events, but the acting and setting of the movie pushes it into a comforting and fall category.
Parent Trap:
Although the movie predominantly takes place during summer, it always had more of a fall feeling to me. It’s filled with warm colors, family and a happy ending. As an older movie, it does not have cell phones or technology that we have today. This adds to the comforting feeling because it takes you away from the stress technology creates in our current world. It’s just a fun movie, something we all need as we enter fall and begin a busy school season.
Harry Potter:
The overall feeling of the Harry Potter series (specifically the earlier ones) is warm and comforting. Scenes of holidays in the great hall, the misty landscapes and the familiar characters bring you back to being a kid. It transports you into a world different from our own. A world where we don’t have to stress or worry. As the weather gets colder and the leaves begin to turn. The series can ease the transition and make it cozy.
Gilmore Girls:
This is an honorable mention. I know it’s not a movie, but it’s too good not to include. No matter what season it may be in the show, fall is the time to break out Gilmore Girls. Something about Friday night dinners, Chilton, the inn and arguing about Rory’s best boyfriend makes Gilmore Girls the best comforting and chill watch during the fall months.
