A new exhibit was recently unveiled in the Fine Arts Gallery. The Staff Art Show is showcasing works created by BHS Fine Arts teachers, highlighting the creativity and talent behind the department.
The exhibit features a variety of photographs, paintings and craft works made by teachers. The show is intended to give students the opportunity to see their teachers not only as educators, but also as artists themselves.
Among the featured artists is Jeff Doles, BHS TV teacher, who has been passionate about photography since taking a high school photography class in the 1990s. Over the years, photography has become a major part of his life, and today he photographs concerts and sporting events across the area.

“I think if you’re gonna be an art teacher, you need to be an artist first, because you need to love what you do,” Doles said. “I think I lead by example by what I do, and I hope my students are inspired by seeing what I do and I am inspired by them.”
To Doles, photography allows him to combine creativity with storytelling, especially when capturing the energy and atmosphere of live performances.
Other teachers in the Fine Arts department — including Thomas Root, Julia Beatty, Joe Zimka and Stephanie Hargreaves — also have their work on display in the gallery.
Zimka, a graphic design teacher, has one of his more unique works on display. Although most of his work is done with digital designs, the show is showcasing his talents in craftsmanship.
The Staff Art Show was organized to celebrate the Fine Arts Department while also onspiring students to continue exploring creative outlets of their own.
The exhibit will remain open in the Fine Arts Gallery throughout the end of the school year for students, staff and visitors to enjoy.
