The Varsity girls basketball team lost 52-67 last Friday, December 9 to Fremd High School. The Fillies (8-4) were tied at halftime to the Vikings (9-0), but fell short in the final two quarters. This marks the first time the rival teams have met this season.

“Obviously we were all upset after the loss because of how badly we wanted to win,” senior Sophie Swanson said. “But it’s definitely a learning experience. We needed a couple losses under us so we know what we need to work on. We are going to move on from the loss and continue to work hard as a team.”

There was a large student turnout for both the girls’ game and the subsequent boys’, with club Big Red leading the cheering section.

“The games were both really fun and had a great atmosphere,” senior Kate Lubinsky, a member of Big Red, said. “It’s always fun when our teams play a rival school at home because so many people come out and support. The girls played a tough Fremd team but had an incredible effort.”

The Fillies’ next game will be against Evanston on Tuesday, December 13 at 7:25 p.m at Lake Zurich High School.
