Yes. As a senior, I would say senioritis is definitely real. I am the type of person and student who is always on top of things and if I’m not on top of things, I’m anxious all the time. But after I committed in February the school nerves kinda just stopped.
I still get (most) my work done but it doesn’t worry me as much as it has before and when I’m doing my homework or completing a test I have an “it is what it is” kind of mindset now. Which is crazy to think about because I have never felt that way about school until this semester.
I used to be at school until 5:30 for rehearsal then I would go to the library and work until 9. I would do this every single day last year and I swear I am more tired of work now than I was back then.
I don’t really know what is making me more tired because I’m definitely not doing more work. It could honestly be because I’m doing so much less that I might just be in a state of calm that I’ve never felt before and I’m just perceiving it as being tired.
I’m just done.
There’s one class where I have a 90 percent and normally I would be stressed to keep it there but I’ve already accepted the fact I might have a B because I just don’t care enough to study.
Senioritis is not just an excuse students created to stop doing work. At least according to Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). Faculty Training and Development Facilitator of SNHU Abby Tincher is a believer in Senioritis.
“I would describe it as seeing the finish line and realizing you don’t necessarily have to work as hard anymore to reach it,” Tincher said.
I completely agree. I have A’s in all my classes and we’re on our last two units so even if I get lower grades than normal there is no way my overall grade will drop to a B and I don’t have finals to worry about.
The only class I still make a major effort (other than this one because obviously you’re reading this), is my AP Spanish class because we’re working towards the AP test and I love Spanish.
That’s probably the only reason these two classes still have my attention, because I enjoy them. I mean I’m majoring in journalism and minoring in Spanish.
The big takeaway from this rant is that mine and other seniors’ senioritis is real and valid.
